John Patterson Bowman was about twelve years old when he came with his parents John and Mary (Cromer) Bowman to Peru Township, Miami County. He spent the rest of his life near the place where his parents settled.

He married Catharine Ellen Myers daughter of Nicholas Myers. Nicholas gave a portion of his land to his daughter Catharine and John P. for their home. They in turn left it to their children.

Their son Noah Bowman lived on this farm until his death. At his death it went to his only child Edna Bowman who died in 1956. It was sold after being in the family for more than a hundred years. All thirteen of John P. & C. Ellen (Myers) Bowman's were born on this farm.

Of the ten children that grew to maturity the first six were born in a log cabin. The four younger ones were born in a six-room house built in 1858.
