1851 Woodland Village Broadwoodkelly Census, John Lovil is listed as a farm laborour for a Robert & Mary Lovil (who may be an Uncle) and their family.
1861 Hediston South Hill, Bratton Clovelly Census John Lovill is listed as a Carter living with a family led by Robert Lovill (all born in Broadwoodkelly) that appears to be an older brother (or cousin), his wife and 4 children.
In 1871 John Lovill, Single, is listed at Mendea, Bratton Clovelly with another brother (or cousin), William Lovill (b. 1845 Broadwoodkelly), with his wife and 3 children (all b. Bratton Clovelly). Mendea Farm is listed in the 1871 Census immediately above Risdon Farm which listed his future wife, the widowed Mary Wooldridge and her daughter Mary.
John Lovell Married Mary Wooldridge Wooldridge 1st Qtr 1873- registered Okehampton, they probably married in Bratton Clovelly.
1881 Boasley Cottage, Bratton Clovelly Census lists John (b. 1834 Broadwoodkelly) & Mary Lovell living with step-daughter Mary Wooldridge.
John Lovell died 12 July 1885 at Risdon Farm, leaving his estate to wife Mary Lovell

Note: There are two John Lovell's (or Lovill's) that were born between 1833-1834. The one born in Broadwoodkelly, is the one buried in 1885 in Bratton Clovelly and was the second husband of Mary Wooldridge. The other John Lovill was born and baptized in Bratton Clovelly to John and Joanna Lovell, married Betsy Friend of Northlew in 1859 and shows in many Family Trees to have died in 1885 and been buried in Bratton Clovelly. Actually, both John (d. 1921)and Betsey Friend (died c. 1905) Lovell both died after they retired to live with their daughter, Ellen Lovell Down in Tavistock.
