1871 Lower Voadon, Bratton Clovelly Census has William R Brown listed as a Cattle Dealer living with his second wife, Maria and two sons Thomas & John jointly farming 700 acres. Also listed, is Jessie Martin, granddaughter, Age 15, born Bridgerule, who married John Brown in 1874.

John Brown Married Jessie Martin 29 Jan 1874 in Bratton Clovelly. Jessie was the daughter of John & Grace Martin, road surveyor, and was baptized 23 Aug 1855 in Bridgerule, Devon.

John Brown Died in 1884 at Lower Voaden Farm-Age 49. John left his estate to his brother Thomas Brown.

Note: 1891 Blackbroom Farm, Bratton Clovelly lists his Brother Thomas Brown & his wife Joanna as Farmer & Cattle Dealer with John & Jessies four children living with them. The 1901 Lower Voaden Farm, Bratton Clovelly is run by John's single children Thomas Brown b. 1878 and his sister Jessie Annabella b. 1882. Apparently, Jessie Martin Brown re-married 4th Qtr 1887, Registered Okehampton but the record does not list who she married.
