Born October 24, 1924, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Zenas E. Barger and Lela Bolick Barger.
Ray was a very active member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He loved gardening, his family and his church.
Ray is survived by his wife, Lucy Mull Barger of the home; daughters, Sandra Walker and husband Melvin "Bud", and Kathy Crowe and husband, Boyce, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Melita Whisnant, Shelly Hunt, Kelly Crowe, Angela Lassiter and Kristina Barger, and great grandchildren, Juliana Whisnant, Alex Whisnant, Sydney Hunt, Ethan Hunt, Katelyn Lassiter, Sarah Lassiter and Kaleb Crowe.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Barger; two sisters, Nina Barger and Marie Barger; and an infant baby brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. November 28th at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Moneyham officiating.
Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
