Joyce Striegler Johanson was born in Gillespie County on December 3, 1927 to Evan and Addie Striegler. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Nathan Charles Johanson, her parents, her brother Curtis Striegler, brother Kenneth Striegler and his wife Dora.
Joyce had a tremendous love for her family and was a devout member of Manchaca United Methodist Church and church choir.
Joyce was a graduate of Durham Business College and was employed by the Texas State Board of Pardons and Parole until her husband's military career took them to Japan, Georgia, Hawaii and back to Fort Hood, Texas where he retired in 1965. The family then moved to Austin where Joyce returned to the Texas State Board of Pardons and Parole until she retired in 1992. Declining health placed Joyce in Monument Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in La Grange, Texas for the past 3 years.
Surviving family members include Terry Johanson and Lynda Anderson of Galveston, TX, Kris Johanson and Donna Baker of Austin, TX. Grandchildren Shelly Landreth and husband Jimmie, Erik Johanson, Natalie Johanson, great grandchildren Ty Beseda and Tara Beseda, sister-in-law Joyce Striegler.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, TX. Service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2015 at Manchaca United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Onion Creek Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Manchaca United Methodist Church Choir or to Hospice Brazos Valley.
