George H. Greathouse married Caroline (Hill) Chigbrow on 6 Sep 1847 at Edwards County, Illinois, the mother of Henry Patterson Chigbrow and William Charles Chigbrow. Their children were: Isolene, Francis Marion, Isaac, Daniel, Stephen A. Douglas, George Washington, Rosetta "Etta" and one more child yet undiscovered as of 3 June 2023.
George and Caroline and their family are listed as the first settlers of Nelson Township in Cloud County, Kansas, circa 1868, in each of their newspaper obituaries, Concordia, Kansas.
An April 7, 1891 Concordia newspaper article mentions that George Greathouse and family leaves for Oklahoma. A Guthrie, OK newspaper on 9 May 1891 lists School Land bought in Guthrie, OK by George Greathouse and Newton Z. Barnes. This indicates George and Caroline, and their children George W. Greathouse and family, and Rosetta and Newton Barnes and family all moved to Oklahoma, where George Senior died on 25 or 26 March 1892. A Concordia, KS news article announces Caroline's return to her farm in Nelson Township 27 July 1893. George's Will is probated in Cloud County, KS January 1894, showing his farm was kept intact during the time they had moved to Oklahoma. His will leaves all his property to his wife, Caroline during her lifetime as his widow, and to son, Stephen A. Douglas Greathouse after her demise.
