HERRIN - Stephen Peter Bowen, 68, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Mr. Bowen was a truck driver and formerly worked for Clark Farm's in Marion. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was born September 29, 1941, in Brattleboro, VT to Peter and Hazel Ann (Jeneson) Bowen. Stephen first married Janice Kay Miller and from this union was born three children, Stephen, Scott and Mechelle Renee'. He then married Norma L. Dodd. She preceded him in death August 25, 2007. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen G. and Lora Bowen of Herrin; daughter and son-in-law, Mechelle Renee' and Jeff Rogers of Virginia; stepson, Darrell Robertson of Herrin; two stepdaughters, Carol (Kevin) Porritt of Herrin and Michelle Cullum of Herrin; fiancée, Alma Jean Clark of Herrin; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-stepgranddaughter; and his companion, his shi-tzu dog, Sammo. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Scott Allen Bowen; and one sister, Sharon Thayer.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, in Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery, with military graveside honors conducted by Herrin American Legion Post 645, Baker-Ladd VFW Post 1567 and Illinois Army National Guard Honors Detail.
