A lifelong resident of Long and Liberty counties, he was retired from CSX Railroad after 38 years of service. Mr. Ray was a lifelong member of Liberty Baptist Church and a deacon. He was a Mason, an avid fox hunter and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leavy and Marjorie Ray; brother, Steve M. Ray; and sister, Harriette R. Simmons.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Jackie Ray; children, Mark and Casey Ray of Ludowici, Synthia and Paul Brannen of Jesup and Keith and Toni Ray of Odum; grandchildren, Taylor, Graysen and Morgan Brannen, Trevor and Evan Ray and Bryce and Carson Ray; brother, Cliff Ray of Ludowici; sister, Brenda Riddlespur of Aniston, AL; a special cousin, Ronald Ray of Midway; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at Liberty Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, April 17, at Liberty Baptist Church and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pastors Tommy Hamilton and Robert Long will officiate.
