Marge Stone passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 at Sacred Heart Medical Center at the age of 84.

Marge was born Aug. 22, 1924 to Robert Adolph and Marlea Andrews Sipes in Tacoma, Wash.
She is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather John Moore, and her loving husband of 61 years, Norman Ward Stone in January of this year.

Marge will be dearly missed by her sons, Tom Stone of Cheney and Bob Stone and wife, Debbie, of Moscow, Idaho; and her sister Mennet Cotton, of Lafayette, Calif., her grandchildren, Garrett, Meredith, Angeline and Taylor will greatly miss their grandma and cherish their memories of her.

Marge graduated from Oregon City High School in 1940 and Willamette University in 1943. At the young age of 19 she was teaching high school history before meeting and later marrying Norm on June 22, 1947.

Marge was a very talented and gifted woman who gave so much to others. Marge was an excellent weaver, knitter, and quilter. Volunteering, she taught weaving classes, knit caps for any organization or group of people needing them, gave money to animal groups, helped group homes and was instrumental in organizing and working with the Cheney Recycling Center. She was the advisor to the SPURS, a service sorority at Eastern Washington University.

Marge was always there for Norm and their boys: cooking, gardening, working at swim meets, traveling to swim meets, welcoming in their friends, encouraging them in whatever was an interest. She was a marvelous cook and provided hundreds of meals for Norm’s poker players over the 40 plus years of his poker games in their basement. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed her cooking and still use her delicious recipes. Gardening, canning, freezing and giving vegetables away was a natural occurrence every summer at the Stone residence.

Genealogy interested Marge and she traced both Norm’s and her families back to the 1600s without ever using a computer!
Up until her very last days Marge had her great sense of humor, intelligence and concern for others well being. Marge will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hospice of Spokane, P.O. Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210. A private celebration of Marge and Norms lives will be held later in the summer.

No memorial service will be held as the deceased requested.
