Ruth E. Brindley, 75, of 17 Roseview Drive died yesterday at St. Joseph Hospital, North Providence.
She was the wife of Herbert Brindley. *
She was the widow of Howard Bateman.
Born in Cranston, a daughter of the late John M. and Esther E. (Anderson) Danielson, she lived in Cranston for 50 years.
Mrs. Brindley was a sales clerk at the Cathedral House Bookstore, Providence, for five years before retiring in 1992. In her early years she was employed in the office of the former Apponaug Co., Warwick.
She served St. David's Episcopal Church, Cranston, as a lay reader, a member of the Altar Guild, a former senior warden, and a former member of the vestry. Her work for the Episcopal Diocese included serving as a former member of the Standing Committee of the Diocesan Council, Deputy to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church, a member of the Episcopal Charities Board, a member of the board of managers of the St. Elizabeth Home, Providence, and the Episcopal Church Women. In November she received the Max Grant Award for her work in Episcopal charities.
She was a member of the Cranston Historical Society, and the National Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Besides her husband she is survived by a son, a daughter, two sisters and three granddaughters.
