Sarah Christine (Hageseth) Berg, age 45, of White Bear Lake and Elk River, Minn., died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, in a drowning accident while on vacation in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Sarah was born Oct. 24, 1954, in Thief River Falls, Minn., to Robert and Hazel Hageseth. She moved with her family to Elk River where she grew up and graduated from Elk River High School. She attended Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., and graduated in 1976 with a major in sociology and psychology and a minor in art. Sarah was also an active volunteer in Moorhead, working with handicapped youth.
After graduation from college, she worked for the Wackenhut Security Co. at Becker and Rockford Power Plants during construction.
On Oct. 6, 1979, Sarah married Richard Berg at Central Lutheran Church in Elk River. To their marriage four children were born: Annie, April, Alethea and Anthony.
Sarah was very involved with crafts. She knitted, crocheted, and using the computer, created personalized children’s books which she sold at craft shows. Sarah really enjoyed her conversations and discussions with the vendors and customers at the craft fairs. She also bred and raised Siamese cats, wrote poetry, and was a self-taught computer person who did simple web designs for others. Sarah and her son, Anthony, enjoyed their fishing adventures during the summer. At the time of her death, she was employed at a Perkins Restaurant.
Sarah is survived by her husband, Richard of White Bear Lake; three daughters, Annie, April and Alethea, and her son, Anthony, all of White Bear Lake; her mother, Hazel Hageseth of Elk River; two brothers, Jon (Kathy) of La Crosse and Daniel (Linda) of Elk River; her mother-in-law, Evelyn Berg of Litchfield, Minn.; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Hageseth of Elk River, and her grandparents, Sam and Nellie Hageseth and Hans and Emma Evenson, all of Menomonie.
Her funeral service was Monday, June 12, 2000, at Central Lutheran Church in Elk River with Pastor Cedric Olson officiating. Interment was in Froen Cemetery in Menomonie with Pastor Dan Alexander from Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials were preferred to the children’s education fund or donor’s choice.
Dare’s Funeral Home in Elk River was in charge of arrangements.
