Morgan Barry Henderson, Jr., 85, died on April 20, 2015.
He was born, April 5, 1930, in Longview, Texas to Gladys and Morgan Henderson.
His Grandparents were Alice Ida and Robert Taylor Henderson and Lula Furguson and Charles Thomas Culpepper.
Barry grew up on the family dairy farm in Longview, Texas. He milked cows and by age nine made early morning milk deliveries driving the family milk truck.
He was a Judson Blue Devil, excelling in all sports. Many Classmates fondly remember him playing a trumpet solo wearing his football uniform during the half-time of football games. He graduated from Judson High School in 1948.
From 1948-1949 he attended North Texas Agriculture College in Arlington, Texas. In 1949, he left to pursue a career in baseball. He was a pitcher with the Dallas Texans and the Lawton Giants where his fast ball was clocked at over 100 miles per hour.
In December 1950, he was drafted into the United States Air Force. He trained as a RCT Mechanic and a Fly Gunner with the 342nd Bomb Squadron. He fought and was wounded in the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the Air Crew Medal, the Air Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. It was while stationed in Hawaii that he met John Wayne who was filming the movie Big Jim Mc Lain. A proud moment came when he was nicknamed "Big Tex" by "The Duke". He was discharged into the Air Force Reserve in November, 1953.
After his military service, he worked for the US Postal Service while establishing Henderson Iron Works and Henderson Water Wells. During this time he also served as Gregg County Commissioner for Precinct One; and served on the State Texas Water Well Board. Until his retirement, he drilled hundreds of water wells in the East Texas Area.
Barry was a life time member of Alpine Presbyterian Church, where Grandparents and Great-Grandmother were Charter Members.
He married Shirley Potz-Nielsen on January 11, 1989. He is survived by his wife of 26 years.
His daughter Laura Alice, and son-in-law John Hale, of San Antonio, Texas. His daughter by marriage, Kelly Jordan and son-in-law Bob Jordan of Flower Mound, Texas; son by marriage, Steve Potz-Nielsen and daughter-in-law Gwen Potz-Nielsen of Lake Kiowa, Texas. His grandchildren, who were taught by their Papa the complete works of John Wayne: Jordan and Jackson Hale; Soren Jordan; Sheryl Jordan Rios; Dallas, Jenna, Shelby, and Carly Potz-Nielsen. He also has three surviving sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
