Longtime cook at Ridgway's restaurant
Laura Mae (Carper) Parks, 77, of Bloomsburg, died Monday, July 26, 2010, at the Bloomsburg Health Care Center.
Born Sept. 18, 1932, in Strawberry Ridge, she was a daughter of the late Rufus Carper and Elizabeth (Nungesser) Carper.
For many years, Laura worked as a cook at Ridgway's restaurant and at Bloomsburg University, where she was employed by Aramark.
Laura was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Bloomsburg. She enjoyed baking and cooking for her family, especially when she made her homemade bread and fudge. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She is survived by her children: Kenneth Parks and his wife, Chris, Catawissa; Patricia Bonawitz and her husband, Randy, Shirley Parks, Bloomsburg; and Tina Erb and her husband, Marlin Erb Jr., Bloomsburg. Her five grandchildren are: Neil Styer; Brandy Dellen; Gary Parks; Kyle Erb; and Walker Erb; and seven step grandchildren. Laura's surviving siblings are: Mary Holtzapple, Selinsgrove; Elwood Carper, Danville; Leon Carper, Oregon; Bertha Berkheimer, Danville; Florence Emery, Lewisburg; Dorothy Weiser, Selinsgrove; Leroy Carper, Danville; Joyce Seaman, Richville; and Allen Carper, Elysburg.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter in 1958; and a brother, Charles Carper, who died in 1986.
A memorial service and Celebration of her Life will be held later this year. The time and date of the memorial service will be announced in the obituary listings in the Press Enterprise.
