Mr. Pettus was born to the late Marvin and Edna Pettus, September 14, 1937, in Oxford, Alabama. Ken graduated from Oxford High School in 1957 and attended Gadsden State College. He married Sara Gail Cox in 1959. They resided in Oxford, Alabama; Gadsden, Alabama; and Huntsville, Alabama before retiring to Miramar Beach, Florida in 2004.

Ken was employed by Sherman Industries in Gadsden, Alabama and Huntsville, Alabama prior to forming Pettus Materials, Inc. in 1993. Ken was a proud American who loved his country. He served with the 405 Civil Affairs Reserve Unit in Anniston, Alabama. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, and golf. His company Pettus Materials, sponsored The Pettus Materials Golf Tournament for several years. Ken was a 32 Degree Mason, Lodge No. 846 Glencoe, Alabama.

While living in Oxford, he was a member of the Oxford Lions Club and Oxford Jaycees where he served as club president. When he resided in Huntsville, he was a member of Valley Hill Country Club where he enjoyed golfing with his friends and participating in the Friday afternoon scrambles. An avid Alabama football fan, he enjoyed following the progress and many successes of the team. As a resident of Miramar Beach, he enjoyed his many friends and neighbors, especially his fellow “Spit and Whittle” club members. Spending time at the weekly Wednesday meetings was a definite highlight. He was a member of Community Church, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

Ken is survived by his wife Gail, son Russell, and daughter-in-law Sue. Grandchildren include Morgan Pettus, Summer Weber and her husband Alec, and Blake Brothers and his wife Rebecca. He is also survived by one sister Helen Day, beloved sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, and health workers who extended excellent care during his extended illness.

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, June 10 from 4-6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Community Church in Santa Rosa Beach, FL and/or Friday, June 13 from 4-6 p.m.at First Baptist Church, Oxford, AL.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Kidney Foundation, or Covenant Hospice.
