John Charles, known to family as "Buddy" also known to friends as "Charlie" and as if two nicknames were not enough his Aunt Irene nicknamed him "Rake Handle." Buddy was a native of Lake Wales, he moved to the Tampa area from Brooksville in 1947. He was preceded in death by his common-law wife, Barbara in 1996; his mother, Carrie Louise (Arrington) Eiland in 1995; his sister, Joyce Cagle in 1990. Buddy and Barbara met in the late 1960s and not long after they met they moved in together with her son, Ricky who was about three years old. Due to Buddy's parents strict Pentecostal religion, he told his parents him and Barbara had married. Like his mother had done with all her children, she proceeded to add their "marriage" into her family bible. Years later, after grandma had passed away we were looking at the births, marriages, and deaths she had added to her bible over the years and the only marriage that had faded was that of Buddy and Barbara; all had been written in ink. It had faded so badly we could not make out the date. Buddy was employed at Spinnaker Lounge in Tampa. He was survived by his son, Ricky (Angie) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and his loving father whom he was named after; two brothers, Harold "Wayne" Eiland (Merry) of Tampa and Donnie Gayle Eiland (Romona) of Bradenton; and two sisters, Shirley Gloria Ruhmel (Roosevelt Cagle) and Dorothy Jeanette Mobley both of Tampa; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
