A Funeral Ceremony will be celebrated Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Peggy Trahan Rogers Neal, 88, who passed away during the early morning hours Friday, April 24, 2015 at Courtyard Manor Assisted Living in Lafayette.

Reverend Doctor Robert Miller, Pastor of First Lutheran Church in Lafayette, will officiate.

Peggy was born November 27, 1926 in the Ridge, LA Community to Mayo and Julienne Trahan.

In her younger years, she lived with her grandparents in the Judice Community where she attended school. During World War II, she worked as a Western Union Operator in New York City, sending and receiving messages to and from troops abroad. It was during the war years that she met her first husband, Duane L. Rogers who was temporarily stationed at Chennault Airbase in Lake Charles, LA. They married soon after the war ended. The young couple settled in Vancouver, Washington and together they had five children. Later in the late 1950s, the family moved to Lafayette, LA where Peggy, Duane and the family operated the A&W Root Beer Drive In on Johnston Street across from the old Service Merchandise building. After Mr. Rogers’ death in 1966, Peggy continued to operate the business through the early 1970s.

In 1980, Peggy met and married her second husband, Charles M. Neal, Jr., a union that lasted until his death in 2012. They spent much of their time together at their lake house in East Texas and also maintained a home in Lafayette spending time with family and friends. Peggy made friends easily and many of those relationships lasted for her lifetime. She will be missed by her family and the many friends that knew her.

Peggy is survived by her five children, Larry Rogers and his wife, Jeanette of Reeds Spring, MO, Linda Denton and her husband, Wayne of Lafayette, LA, Leslie Rogers and his wife, Charlie of Rogers AR, Lonnie Rogers and his wife, Janice of Tomball, TX and Lyle Rogers and his wife, Sherry of Carencro, LA; her brother, Glenn Trahan of Ponchatoula, LA; eight grandchildren, Amy Eby of Branson West, MO, Kellie Smith Galena of MO, Duane M. Rogers of Galena, MO, Rachelle Birch of Lafayette, LA, Adam and Angelle Rogers of Rogers, AR and Matthew and Steven Rogers of Lafayette, LA; two step grandchildren, Andrew and Brandon Malaxonis; fifteen great grandchildren and 3 great-great grand-children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mayo and Julienne Trahan; her first husband, Duane L. Rogers; her second husband, Charles M. Neal, Jr.; her brothers, Patrick Trahan and Ray Allen Trahan and her sisters, Ruby Arceneaux and Gloria Landry.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Peggy’s caregivers at Courtyard Manor and particularly to her personal sitters, especially Pam Noel and Anna Goody who dutifully cared for her for in recent years.
