Joe D. Owen was born in Lubbock, Texas on November 8, 1926 and passed from this life on April 23, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Glenell Malsbury Owen, his parents Joe H. and Ruby F. (Stringer) Owen, and brother, John Gordon Owen. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Susan and John Allen and Julia and Donald Bevers. Joe graduated from OSU and spent most of his career with Phillips Petroleum Co. in Bartlesville from 1952 until 1983 and in Denver until 1985. Following retirement in 1985 they moved to Stillwater, where Joe taught electrical engineering at OSU for several years. In 2006 they moved to Spanish Cove Retirement Village in Yukon, Oklahoma. Joe was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, music, and traveling. Before retirement, he was a member of the Phillips Petroleum touring singing group, the Philtones, and the Frank Phillips Men’s Chorus of Bartlesville. He was a lifetime member of the Grand Lodge of Oklahoma A.F. & A.M., Bartlesville Lodge No. 284. In retirement, he played the baritone horn with the Stillwater Community Band, and actively participated in the Kiwanis Club of Stillwater. After moving to Yukon, he sang with the Spanish Cove Retirement Village choir until 2012. Services will be held in the family cemetery in Athens, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity or to the Oklahoma State University Foundation.
