Melvin Lloyd Young, age 91, of Miles City passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the Eastern Montana State Veteran's Home in Glendive with his family by his side.

Melvin was born on January 13, 1924 in Baker, Montana, the son of Lloyd and Marjorie (Ferris) Young. He attended grade school and high school in Baker. He enlisted in the United State Navy on June 8, 1944 and received the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, American Area Campaign Medal as well as the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on June 12, 1946. He married Vera Mae Coltrin on January 1, 1949 in Miles City, Montana. To this marriage they had four children: Kathy, Marjorie, Denise and Meldene. He worked as a police officer for several years and was a welder for Nolley's Welding. Mel was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed welding ornamental iron statues and rod iron railings for houses. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. The most important thing in Mel's life was the love he had for his family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of his life.

Melvin is survived by his children: Kathy Mae Young of Vienna, Austria; Marjorie Ann Rohach of Dickinson, ND; Denise Sherell Young of Dickinson, ND; and Meldene (Scott) Huitt of Dickinson, ND; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his siblings: Donna Friemarck of Miles City, MT and Doyal Young of Billings, MT

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Charles, Milo and Royal Young.

At Melvin's request, cremation has taken place and services will be held at a later date. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.
