Matthew Clyde McGee, age 22, of Abingdon Road, Lenoir, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. He was born June 26, 1992 in Caldwell County to Timothy Max McGee and Tracey Hawkins Simmons. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clyde and Helen Hawkins; and his paternal grandparents, Max and Joanne McGee.

Mr. McGee was a cook for Fatz and Mayflower Restaurants. He had a warm and loving heart and no matter where he went he never met a stranger. He always had a smile and went out of his way to help anyone he met. Everyone loved Matthew.

Survivors in addition to his parents include his step-father, Ira Simmons of Lenoir; his step-mother, Pamela Blevins McGee of Lenoir; one brother, Timothy Chad McGee of Lenoir; five step-brothers, Destry Scott Blevins, James Simmons, John Simmons, Jesse Simmons, all of Lenoir and Sgt. David Patrick Brittain of Jacksonville, NC; and six nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 27, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Jim Lee and Pastor Jeremy Greer. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Destry Blevins, Patrick Brittain, James Simmons, John Simmons, Barry Brown and Jordan Summerow.

Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
