Kenneth Harley Sawyer,75, died April 24,2015 in Mt.Pleasant Texas after a long courageous battle with Lung Cancer.He was born August 13,1939 in Longview,Texas to Evelyn Lucille ( Wilkinson ) and William Harley Sawyer.
At age 5 his mother married Odia L. Story and the family moved to the Talco Texas area.
He attended the East Ward School in Mt Pleasant and Talco High School.
Kenneth was very patriotic and loved his family and country very much . He served in the United States Airforce for 7 years and The United States Army later as SSGT. He served in Korea and Vietnam. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in Detroit Michigan. In the 70's and 80's he owned and operated the Sawyer grocery Store ( formerly Wadells Grocery ) in Talco, Texas. He and the " love of his life" Peggy, retired to Lake O'the Pines where he beacme an avid fisherman and gardener. Raising beautiful flowers and maintaining a beautiful yard. He loved to work making things by hand such as birdhouses and feeders. He built a quilting machine from scratch for his wife and also made all the patterns they used in quilting. He was such a talented man. He could build and fix absolutely anything. He was a great machanic.
He is survived by His children: Pam Dean and husband James Dean of Midleothian, Texas, Jessie Johnson of Texarkana, Texas, Debbie Dale and husband Ron Dale of Talco and Waylon Johnson and wife Rinah of Batam, Riau, Indonesia. 1 brother, William Lewis "Bill" Sawyer and wife Wanda of Leesburg,Texas and 1 sister, Pattie Story McClung of Pittsburg,Texas. 12 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren.
Preceded in death by wives Virginia Joyce ( Karas ) Sawyer ofAnchorville, Michigan and Peggy Ann ( Green) Sawyer of Mims Texas. 1 Daughter, Kathleen "Kitty" Jo Sawyer Filkins of Keene, Texas Parents, William Harley Sawyer of Monticello,Tx., Odia L. Story of Talco, Tx and Lucille Story of Pittsburg,Tx., 1 Brother in law ,William Doyle McClung of Pittsburg,Texas, 5 grandsons, Shon Cody Gage of Avinger, Steven Chase Ellis, Asa and Cody Ellis of Cleburn Texas and Seth Tanner Filkins of Keene, Texas, 1 Grand daughtr in law, Elizabeth Stephens Gage of Avinger, Tx. One nephew, Rodney Lewis Sawyer, of Pittsburg,Texas.
Per his wishes there will be no formal funeral service. A private family burial of both his and his wife, Peggys, ashes will take place at a later date in Macedonia Cemetery , Camp County, Texas.y will be notified the date,place and time.
The family plans a family dinner and memorial to honor Kenneth at a later date. Friends and extended famil
Kenneth leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and his special little dog, Miss Susie, to mourn his passing.
