Dr Mark Clark Kennedy, Professor of Sociology, Emeritus, American University in Cairo, Egypt
As a young man served in the United States Navy during World War 2 as part of the Tunisia Campaign and was part of the Battle of Bizerte. After the war used the GI bill for college getting his BA at the University of Texas, as well as his masters. He did some work in Tulane University and Memphis State. He received his PHD from SUNY in Buffalo and then took a teaching position at the University of Vermont. Four years later accepted a position at the American University in Cairo. He served as Head of the Department of Anth, Soc, Psych and was also the founder and editor of the university's flagship journal, Cairo Papers in Social Science.
He was preceded in death by his son Mark Kirksey Kennedy who died in 1986. His son Harold Walling Kennedy Briggs died a few years after him. He is survived by a daughter of his first marriage Meggin Kennedy Briggs Hunt of Washington State and a daughter by his second marriage, Erinne Clark Kennedy-Dock of Harmontown Mississippi, along with many grandchildren, and great grandchildren
