Anthony “Tony” R. Brantley, Sr., 65, of Arkansas City, died Wednesday (April 22, 2015) at the South Central Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, (April 25, 2015) at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. Pastor Walter Sanders will officiate.
The family will greet friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Tony was born June 1, 1949, in Kansas City, to Guy and Estella (Peevy) Brantley. He was reared and educated in Kansas City, graduating from Wyandotte High School in 1967. He later attended the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and Wichita State University.
Tony served in the Unites States Army. He obtained the rank of Sergeant before retiring.
He married Glenda Berry on June 18, 1977, in Arkansas City. The couple lived in Washington, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Indiana, before returning to Arkansas City.
He was presently employed as a supervisor in the sorting room of the Wichita branch of the United States Post Office. He was a member of the Shelton-Beatty Post #18 American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Glenda of the home; sons Anthony R. Brantley, Jr., and wife Belena Brantley, William Brantley and Wesley Brantley of Arkansas City, Nathan Brantley of Wichita, ; daughters Mary Brantley of the home,, and Alyssa Brantley of Wichita; sisters Clara Jackson of Kansas City, Missouri, Leslie Moore of Kansas City, Kansas; brothers Marvin Brantley of Grandview, Missouri and Richard Brantley of Kansas City, Kansas; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded death by his parents, and siblings Daisy Jones, Lena Mae Lewis, Kathleen Marshall, Joe Brantley, Guy “Bim” Brantley and Annie Mae Brantley.
A memorial has been established with the Arkansas City High School All Sports Booster Club. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
