Richard worked many years and retired as a foreman with the Tennessee Chemical Company and later had worked for Mohawk Industries for a number of years. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Copperhill Masonic Lodge and a 32nd Degree Mason. One son also precedes him death, Winston Robert "Robbie" Locke.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Betty Deal Locke; sons, Richard, Wendell, Eddie M. Verner and Scott; thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; sisters, Rhoda and Rev. Lloyd Deal, Ethel Howard, Essie Rymer, and Margaret and Ronald O'Neal all of Copperhill;
A private memorial service was held in honor of Richard with Rev. Melvin O'Neal and Rev. Jimmy Payne officiating. Interment followed in the Mount Zion (Tumbling Creek) Cemetery. Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill was in charge of the arrangements.
