Joseph S. Kaufman of 225 Central Park West, Manhattan, father of George S. Kaufman, noted playwright, and owner of the New York Silk Dyeing Company, 22-26 119th St., College Point, died today at his home. He was 83 and had been in business in College Point for nearly 30 years. Mr. Kaufman was born in Pittsburgh, the son of Simon Kaufman and Sybella Marks. He moved to New York in 1909, subsequently starting his firm in College Point. Besides his son, Mr. Kaufman, who was a member of the Engineers Club, is survived by his widow, Nettie M. Kaufman, and two daughters, Mrs. Frank G. Lieberman and Mrs. Allan L. Friedlich. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, in the Universal Chapel, 52nd St. and Lexington Ave., Manhattan.
