Obituary for Jean Baird
Mrs. Jean Upton Baird age 84 of West 10th Street, Rome died Tuesday following a brief illness.
Mrs. Baird was born May 1, 1930 in Jefferson County, GA daughter of the late Thatch Upton and Roxie Lamar Upton. Mrs. Baird was a homemaker and talented artist, expressing her skills as a seamstress, quilting, cooking, gardening, crafts and as an artist.
Mrs. Baird was also very involved in her community and volunteered with the schools and as a census taker. She was a sports enthuses and avid Georgia Bulldog fan. Mrs. Baird had been involved with numerous churches over the years and was now attending Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents Mrs. Baird was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Everett Baird, a son, five brothers and a sister.
Survivors include: two sons and daughter-in-law, Tim Baird, Rome and Robert Baird (Joan) of Athens; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Williams (David) Whitehouse, OH and Cecilia Monette (Chuck) Haddock, GA; brother, Stanley Upton, Wadley, GA; sister Helen Tanajewski, Swainsboro, GA; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Jean Upton Baird will be held Friday at 2 PM in the chapel of Miller & Richards Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Diggs officiating, interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family of Mrs. Baird will receive friends Friday from 1 PM until the funeral hour.
The daughters, sons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers for Mrs. Baird’s service.
