Mrs. Elizabeth Giguere, wife of Fillie Giguere, entered into rest at her home on School street early Sunday
morning after an illness which terminated a year's period of ill health. She had almost reached the age of
70 years every on of which had been lived in Canaan, making her one of our oldest native-born residents.
Mrs. Giguere was born July 4, 1864, the child of Charles and Theotis (Bushway) Decato. She was united
in marriage to Fillie Giguere, also of Canaan, on November 16, 1882, and with him resided for several
years on the Murray place in the River Road district now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Beede. Mr. and
Mrs. Giguere removed to this village 38 years ago and in the course of time purchased the present home on
school street which they greatly improved both outside and inside. Mrs. Giguere was the mother of eight
children, six of whom survive. These are Mrs. Mary Hazen of Enfield, Mrs. Lilla Peigthell of Canaan,
Israel of Canaan, John of Daytona, Fla., Sam of Woonsocket, R.I., and Otis N. of Canaan. There are 25
grandchildren. Mrs. Giguere was a devoted wife, parent and grandmother, whose pride for her home and
family were such as should be felt by every good citizen. She had always a smile and a pleasant word for
all, and the wide circle of friends who will recall her unvarying good cheer and helpful disposition will bear
her long in memory. High mass funeral services were held at St. Helena's church in Enfield Wednesday
morning, Rev. Fr. McCarthy officiating. The pass-bearers were Israel, Samuel and Otis Giguere, Arthur
and Robert Hazen of Enfield, and Walter Peightell. There were many lovely floral tributes. Interment was
in the family lot at Wells cemetery.
