Leona Alfreada Rohwedder was born on August 5, 1906 in rural Olin, Iowa, the daughter of, Max and Ida (Nielsen) Rohwedder. She was a 1924 graduate of Stanwood High School and she graduated from Cedar Rapids Business College. She married Howard Mackey on June 1, 1927 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Howard died on April 17, 1974. Leona was a homemaker and lived in the Olin area most of her life, until moving into the Anamosa Care Center. She was a member of Olin United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star Peerless Chapter 435 of Oxford Junction, Garden Club, Bow-Knot Club, Canasta Club, Olin Senior Citizens, and she was a 4-H Leader for the Olin Ship-A-Hoy 4-H Club for many years. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting Leona is survived by her sons, Lorance "Larry" (& Viv) Mackey of Farley; Lyle (& Lorraine) Mackey of Mason City; and Don (& Barbara) Mackey of Olin. 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. A sister, Ina Ford of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, her parents, and eight brothers and sisters. Leona A. Mackey of Olin died Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Anamosa at the age of 97 years, 5 months and 26 days.
