October 12, 1936 - April 20, 2015 Robert Elton (Bob) Heim died on April 20 at home in Mobile, Alabama at the age of 78. He was a native and lifelong resident of Mobile. Bob truly embodied the values of his generation. He was a man driven by loyalty and integrity; unyielding to the trials of life, yet tender toward those he loved – those who called him friend, brother, husband, Daddy, and GrandBob. The legacy he leaves behind is that a life lived in service to others is its own reward. May we honor his memory by celebrating his life and his character that inspired those around him. Bob was born October 12, 1936. In life he served his country, community, and his family with his whole self. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He also impacted the lives of many young people through his work in youth sports, and in 1985 was inducted into the Mobile Youth Baseball hall of fame. He was an avid fisherman and seafood cook, and his family believes he made the best gumbo in the world. He spent his final morning enjoying his daily hobby, working in his yard. Bob's greatest love in life was his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruby Heim, and brother Roy. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Emma Jean Heim; his four children, Robin Dorsett (Martin) of Mobile, Marty Heim (Ima) of Birmingham, Jodi Lee (Jimmy) of Birmingham, and Kim Simpson (Robbie) of Spanish Fort; sister Catherine McFadden (Frank), brother Ray Heim; eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens on Thursday, April 23 from 9:00 until 10:30 AM with service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Camp Rap-A-Hope, 2701 Airport Blvd, Mobile, AL 36606, or at www.camprapahope.org.
