This is Ernest McClellan known as Mackie to his wife Hazel, Mac to everyone else. Our family called him Unc. He worked at Eaton's as Department Manager in 1911 and married parcel girl Hazel Kirby on 26 September 1906. Ernie said he was meant to travel to England as a buyer for Eaton's in 1912 but Eaton's sent someone from Manitoba instead. The return ticket was aboard the Titanic.

Unc seemed wealthy to us when we were kids probably because he offered us a box of pennies to play with when we visited their Wilson Avenue apartment in Toronto. In retrospect it seems a bit of odd to play with pennies at the time it was all we had.

Ernie liked to smoke a good cigar. There was always a cloud of smoke hovering over him. Without fail he dressed for all occasions in a white shirt, dark tie, suit jacket, walking stick and a fedora.
