Helen was born June 30, 1928, in Morristown, to Charles and Dorothea (Bauer) Edwards. In 1946 she graduated from Morristown High School. She married Warren F. Meshke, her classmate, on June 22, 1948, in Morristown. Helen was a homemaker as Warren managed grain elevators and lumberyards in Minnesota and Iowa. They began farming in the Morristown area and later moved to Garden City where the couple operated a diversified crop and livestock farm.
