Sister Patricia Corcoran, (Sister Thomas Marie), a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph, died Saturday, April 18, 2015, at St. Francis hospital in Hartford, CT. she was born in Waterbury, CT on July 11, 1935, a daughter of the late John Joseph and Catherine(Braziel) Corcoran.

Sister Patricia entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on September 1, 1954, and celebrated her perpetual profession of vows on March 1, 1962. She was 79 years old and was in her sixty first year of religious life.

Sister Patricia's varied educational background consisted of a bachelor's degree in education/theology from Diocesan Sisters College, a master's degree in the classics from Boston College, a sixth-year degree in history from Central Connecticut State University and a master's degree in pastoral ministry from St. Joseph College in West Hartford, CT.

Sister Patricia continued her education as a Fulbright scholar in the classics at the American Academy in Rome, Italy. She ministered in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Hartford and taught at South Catholic High School in Hartford, St. Paul Catholic High school in Bristol, CT, Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury, CT and Notre Dame High School in West Haven, CT.

During her last sixteen years in ministry, Sister Patricia was Director of Pastoral Care at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, CT. She retired to St. Joseph Infirmary at the Provincial House in West Hartford, CT in 2009.

Sister Patricia Corcoran will be remembered for her brilliant mind, her keen wit and her kind heart. Her humorous disposition and contagious laughter touched all who had the opportunity to be in her presence. She was extraordinarily understanding as reflected in her open mind and sensitive heart.

Sister Patricia had a commanding, yet caring presence in the classroom. A quote attributed to her is "Kids don't care about what you know unless they know you care." Students respected and liked her. She could control the classroom with a raised eyebrow.

The staff and patients at St. Mary's Hospital will remember Sister Patricia's kindness to all who needed her spiritual care. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
An over-sized card presented to Sister Patricia upon her retirement from St. Mary's, signed with many best wishes from staff and friends, said "Sister Pat, You are one of God's shining stars!", and she certainly was.

Sister Patricia is survived by her sisters in community; her beloved sister, Helen Carmody; and her numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her three brothers, John F. Corcoran, Sr., Thomas E. Corcoran and William J. Corcoran.

A wake for sister Patricia was held Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Convent of Mary Immaculate in West Hartford. A Prayer Service was held at that time. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, April 23, at 10:00 AM in st. Joseph Chapel. Burial was in Sisters of St. Joseph Cemetery immediately following the Mass.

All the arrangements for Sister Patricia were lovingly made and carried out by the Sisters of St. Joseph.
