Sylvia V. Mrotek, age 96, of 1231 S. Eighth St., Manitowoc, died Sunday afternoon, May 18, 2003, at North Ridge Medical & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Thomas Wojciechowski O.F.M. with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. She was born April 8, 1907, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Edward and Veronica Mrotek Raduenz. Sylvia was a graduate of St. Boniface Parochial Grade School and attended Manitowoc Lincoln High School. On Oct. 25, 1924, she married Edmund Mrotek at North Chicago, Ill. He preceded her in death April 11, 1978. Sylvia was employed at Fanny Farmer Candy of Manitowoc and S.S. Kresge Department Store in downtown Manitowoc until her retirement. She was a 69-year member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, 47-year member of American Gold Star Mothers, a member of St. Therese Society and the Manitowoc Senior Citizens. Sylvia loved to travel on the Greyhound bus traveling thousands of miles. Bingo was a favorite game with her. Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law: Evelyn Coffman, Sullivan, Mo.; Jane Ashbaugh, Renton, Wash.; Dorothy and John Dlapa, West Allis; Marilyn and Donald Schleis, Manitowoc; two sons: LeRoy Mrotek, Appleton; James Mrotek, Arlington, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law: Lorraine Raduenz Zimmerman, Two Rivers; and Edna Mrotek of Manitowoc. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by two sons: Donald Mrotek who died in the Korean Conflict and Robert Mrotek; a granddaughter: Janet Coffman; a great-grandson: Chris Coffman; two brothers: Ollie and Lester; a sister: Grace; and two sons-in-law: William Ashbaugh and Arvin Coffman. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Manitowoc, from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service at 10:30 a.m. The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
