Mrs. Sophie (sic) Mailand, 91 (above) of 815 S. 20th St., Manitowoc, died Sunday afternoon at the Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where she had been a patient the past week.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Clement Kern will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born Sophie Fischer in Bavaria, Germany, in 1863 and at the age of 20 came to Manitowoc. She was married at Silver Lake in 1885 to George Mailand and they located on a farm on Rt. 4, Manitowoc, in the town of Manitowoc Rapids. They retired 31 years ago and moved to Manitowoc. Her husband died in 1948 . She was a charter member of the Christian Mothers.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Kuehnl of Whitelaw, Mr. Peter Kleman of Rt. 5, Manitowoc, and Mrs. Anton Kuehnl and Mrs. Herman Gilbert of Manitowoc; son George on the homestead farm; brother, Frank of Milwaukee; two sisters, Mrs. Theresa Regner and Mrs. Francis Baer in Germany, 15 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Monday.
