The name of Robert Ross Carter is memorialized at the US Naval Academy cemetery, under the heading, "Here, we remember our shipmates whose resting places are known only to God". He graduated with the class of 1942. Because of what was going on in the world, at the time, the class of 1941 had graduated four months early, and plans were made for the class of 1942 to graduate 6 months early, on 19 Dec. 1941. Especially since the bombing of Pearl Harbor had taken place only 12 days before, those young men had to grow up in a hurry!
