Willie E. Cross, 81, Mellott, passed away in the St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at 11:53 a.m. following an acute illness with the family at his side.

Willie was born in Flippin, KY, on September 5, 1933. He was the son of the late Virgil and Maggie A. (Loyd) Cross. He was raised in Flippin, KY and attended Gamaiel High School. He later moved to Indiana and settled in South Raub. In 1963 he and the family moved to Mellott.

Willie formerly worked at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica for 11 years. For 30 years, Willie worked at Tee Pak in Danville, IL and retired in 1998.

He was raised in the Methodist faith. He loved watching college basketball with Kentucky and Purdue Universities as his favorite teams. He had quite a collection of John Deere tractors. He enjoyed listening to blue grass music, gardening, camping, fishing . He was quite the joke teller and he loved to make people smile. He was especially proud of his family and spending time with them.

On January 21, 1955 Willie married Mattie L. Dyer in Tompkinsville, KY.

He leaves behind his wife, Mattie of 60 years; two sons, Barry (Nancy) Cross and Larry Cross, both of Mellott; a daughter, Kim (friend-Scott Baker) Tribby, Lafayette; a sister, Vivian (Ron) Coleman, Greenup, KY; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Matt) Stonebraker, Jeremy (Sylvia) Cross and Nathaniel (Jenny) Tribby; three great-grandchildren, Dakota Stonebraker, Alex Cross and Loren Cross. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Cross; four brothers, Edison, Andrew, Drewie and Lewie Benton Cross and a sister, Vivian Miller.

Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Lori Kerr officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro.
