Edward Thornton
Edward Thornton, 89, truck driver, a resident of Summit, OK; transitioned, Thursday, March 12, 2015 in Eastar Health System, Muskogee, OK; surrounded by family.
Edward Thornton was the sixth of nine children born to William Thornton Jr. and Cobbie Wilson Thornton on February 18, 1926 in Montgomery, Alabama.
Edward spent his childhood in Montgomery, AL; and attended Montgomery Public Schools.
He moved to San Diego, California at the age of seventeen. He was gainfully employed at a young age. Edward became a truck driver. He would eventually retire from the trucking industry.
Edward met Annie Mae Baker in 1950. They united in holy matrimony in 1954. To this union they were blessed with five children, Edward Jr., who preceded him in death, Gayle, Dwayne, Yvette and Cheryl.
Edward was a loving husband and father who provided well for his family. He loved gardening, cooking and outdoor sports such as fishing and golfing. He enjoyed the outdoors, learning about nature and wild life. He loved to talk and no one was a stranger.
Edward Thornton departed this life on Thursday, March 12, 2015.
Those left to cherish his memory, a son, Dwayne Thornton, Muskogee, OK; three daughters, Gayle Smith, Tulsa, OK; Yvette Thornton and Chery Thornton, both of San Diego, CA; two sisters, Mattie Penn, Summit, OK; and Adelle Stevens, San Diego, CA; along with 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss him.
A Home Going Service will be conducted Saturday, March 21, 2015, 10:00 a.m., 18th & Denison Church of Christ, Muskogee, OK. Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery, Muskogee, OK.
Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The family has been cared for by Granger-House of Winn Funeral Home.
