Olivama was survived by her children: Michael Martinez (spouse Lorraine) and Linda Martinez-Palmer (spouse Michael Palmer); grandchildren: Nicholas Martinez (fiancée Alecia Maes), Meaghan Martinez-Palmer and Camille Brown (husband Danny); 4 great-grandchildren: Marcos Martinez, Aveaha Martinez, Chloe Brown, and Isaiah Brown; best friend Gloriana Atencio (husband Willy Atencio); siblings: Jenny Nolan, Fritoza Lopez, Matias Archuleta (spouse Josie), Louise Giron, Lydia Reilly (spouse Ralph), Diane Archuleta, Sam Archuleta, and Irma (husband Joe Fernandez); 2 aunts: Mary Lopez and Grace Guiterrez; sisters-in-law Lydia Martinez and Emma Lopez; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Olivama was devoted to her family and her firm belief in God which supported her and ultimately gave her peace. She was the eldest of 13 children. Olivama was a woman ahead of her time, earning a Bachelor’s Degree from Highlands University in English and Math, and advanced degrees from UNM and the University of Denver in Administration and Library Science. She was an advocate of education. Olivama began her career as a teacher of English and Math with the Rio Arriba County School system. She was a long time Librarian for the Española Public Schools; she retired as Media Director. Upon retirement, she served as a lobbyist as well as continuing to volunteer her time to numerous organizations including AARP, New Mexico Association of Educational Retirees, the Republican Party, Española Hospital, Adult reading programs and in April 2014 she was reappointed to the City of Española Library Board on which she had served since 1962. Olivama was a staunch advocate for nursing home patient rights, educators and retirees for which she was the recipient of numerous service awards. Olivama was a member of Sacred Heart Parish where she taught catechism and served as a Lector.
Public visitation and Rosary were on 23 Apr 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española. Mass of Christian burial was on 24 Apr 2015 also at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española. Burial followed in the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
