Mr. Ben Leiker, 82, a resident of St. Mary Home, Manitowoc and formerly of 610 N. 7th St., Manitowoc, died Friday, August 18, 1989 at St. Mary Home. Funeral services will be 12:30 pm Monday at Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and 1 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. William Zimmer and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Leiker was born December 16, 1906 at Catherine, Kansas, son of the late John and Appalonia Klaus Leiker. He was employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company, retiring in 1968. He married Viiola A. Dewane, September 12, 1929 at St. James Catholic Church, Cooperstown, Wisconsin. Mr. Leiker was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Viola, six children, Ben Leiker Jr., of White Pine, Michigan, Jacqueline (Richard) Sterne of Key Largo, Florida, John (Zita) Leiker of Centerville, Ohio, Pat (Freda) Leiker of Las Vegas, Nevada, Marilyn (Roger) Berner of Two Rivers, Gloria (Richard) Bratz of Valders; two brothers, Herbert (Olive) Leiker of Manitowoc and “Brother” Leo Keiler of Kansas; a sister, Edith Handl of Manitowoc; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and John Leiker, a sister, Mary Nys and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Leiker.
