CALHOUN'S SHERIFF IS DEAD

Olin M Dantzler Passes Away - Funeral Services to Be Held This Afternoon

St Matthews, Nov 2 - Sheriff Olin M Dantzler died here at his residence this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Sinc Tuesday morning practically all hope of his recovery has been abandoned. Although a very ill manfor many months, as has lately been discovered, he bore his illness with that unflinching courage with which he met life duties, and so concealed his physical disability that even his closest friends did not know that he was a silent sufferer.

Olin Miller Dantzler was the second son of Mrs Carolina Glover Dantzler and Olin M Dantzler of old Orangeburg parish, who died in defense of the Southern cause. After the death of his mother, he with his brothers spent a number of years at the home of Major Thomas Woodward, their uncle, in Fairfield county. While living there he attended the military school at Charlotte, and later wofford college. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Ashford of Fairfield county. To this union seven children were born: Thomas Dantzler, Ashford Dantzler, Olin Dantzler, Charlie Dantzler, Mrs Sue Dantzler Cook of Fairfield and Mrs Sue Dantzler Huffman of this place. His second wife was Miss Agnes Belle Salley of Orangeburg. To this union two children were born: Govan Dantzler and Rebecca Dantzler. He is survived by his widow, his children, three brothers, Thomas W Dantzler, M O Dantzler and F B Dantzler. Judge Charles G Dantzler, his eldest brother, preceded him to the grave about a year ago.

Before Calhoun county was created, he held the office of county supervisor of Orangeburg county for a number of terms. After the creation of Calhoun county, he was chosen to the office of sheriff, which he has since held.

During the heated days of the memorable '76, no man told Olin Dantzler to follow. It was he who always led. His service to his State at that time is well known to those who served with him.

He was a member of Izlar Lodge, 177, A F M, and was for a number of times the master of the lodge.

Calhoun county can scarcely realize her loss until it is found that his place will be hard to fill.

The funeral services will be held here tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from St Paul's Methodist church, of which he was a lifelong and consistent member. The Masonic order will have charge of the ceremonies.
