"Ben F. Oakley died Saturday at his home seven miles southwest of Rogers at the age of 74 years. Funeral services were held at the homes Sunday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. Eli Myers. Burial at Oakley Chapel. Mr. Oakley was a native of Tennessee but came to Benton county in 1860 and has lived here ever since. He was married in 1869 to Miss Mary Hart, who survives him, as also do both of his children, Mrs. Callie McLeod of near Lowell and N. A. Oakley of Enid, Okla. who was called home by his father's death. He had been a member of the M. E. Church, South since his 20th year, holding his membership at Oakley Chapel. To distinguish him from other Oakleys in the neighborhood, the deceased was familiarly known as "Big Ben", or "Black Ben". He was a great uncle of O. A. P. Oakley of this city."
