Organized the Raton Water Company, of which Colonel J. W. Dwver was president.

Konown to have left his home regularly, to attend sick in Blossburg.

First phone in Colfax Co. installed in Dr. Shuler's home and office, in Raton.

Mayor of Raton, NM, 1899-1902 and 1910-1919.

President, New Mexico Municipal League, 1911-1915.

As mayor, Dr. Shuler undertook a number of impressive projects, including development of a Raton city park, electric and water filtration plant, Raton Water Works, Raton Public Library, and the construction of a municipal auditorium.

Died in the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad Hospital after an operation for an appendicitis.

The building at 131 N. 2nd St. in Raton is today named the Shuler Theater, after Dr. J.J. Shuler.
