Obituary for Frances A. Young

Frances A Young was called home by our heavenly father on March 25, 2015. Frances was born April 11, 1921 in Nixon, TX to Otto and Almeda (nee Ramsay) Askey. At a young age, after her father died, she moved to Gonzales where she lived until she graduated from Gonzales High School. After completing high school a year early, she moved to Georgetown, TX to attend Southwestern University. After completing her degree at Southwestern, she moved to Cuero, TX where she accepted a position as a teacher. In Cuero she met Fred C. Young, who was a civilian flight instructor during WWII. They quickly became an item and the couple married December 25, 1944. The couple moved to Austin shortly after this to begin their family while Fred founded University Motors. While first in Austin she worked part-time at Mutual Savings and Loan.
Frances was an avid African violet enthusiast who was very involved in the societies. She served terms as president in the First Austin African Violet Society and the National African Violet Society. In addition to her love of African violets she was actively involved in several bible study groups at University Methodist Church in downtown Austin. She was an active candy-striper volunteer for many years at St. David's. She was active in sewing circles, book clubs, and her church for many years and made friends all over the country.
One thing that Frances and Fred had in common was their love of travel even though Frances was scared of flying and Fred was a pilot. They compromised and discovered their love of cruising. Frances travelled all over the world to places such as Ireland, Russia, China, Israel, Italy, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. She once tried to count up how many cruises she had been on and lost count.
Frances is survived by her sons, Robert (Zenaida), James (Dian), and Richard (Misty). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tiffany Young, Colby Young, and Cassandra Lovin-Young. Also surviving her are her nephew, Walter Vackar (Martha), and niece, Ann Lehrer.
The family wishes to thank Irina Rogushov, her caregiver for the last several years. Her faith, friendship, and care are more appreciated than she'll ever know.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel, North Lamar. Interment at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive.
