Funeral services for Bessie Lee Griffin, age 95, will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Monday, April 20, 2015 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Deport, TX, with Bryce Jester, Zach Jester, Steve Crawford, Burt Slaughter, Shane Beers an Sean Crouch serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2015 at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mrs. Griffin passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 at her residence.
Mrs. Griffin was born on November 25, 1919 in Commerce, TX, the daughter of Charles and Julia (Walker) Lake. She married James “Pinky” Griffin on July 18, 1946. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, James A. “Jim” Griffin II. Lee, as she was known by friends, graduated from East Texas State Teachers College in 1945 and received her Master of Education from East Texas State University in 1963. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was a Librarian for the Sulphur Springs ISD for over 34 years and retired in 1987. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her son Michael Griffin and wife Scottie of Spring City, TN, daughter-in-law and care giver, Judy Griffin of Klondike, grandchildren, Shannon Wilson and husband Joseph, Jennifer Beers and husband Shane, Chandra Crawford and husband Steve, Shelly Slaughter and husband Burt and Julia Crouch and husband Sean, 14 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, in honor of her husband and son at www.cancer.org.
