On 12 Jul 1861 Frederick, a resident of Winchendon, MA, and tub and pail maker, mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, being credited to the quota of Winchendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He was 19 years, 1 month and 4 days old.
On 21 Jan 1863 Frederick ended military service with the 15th Massachusetts due to disability.
Starting Oct 1863, Frederick also served in the 2nd New York Veterans' Cavalery as Sergeant. He ended his service with the 2nd N.Y. Veteran Cavalry in Jul 1865.
On 5 Jan 1867 Frederick, 24, married Clara A. Moore, 17, daughter of David Moore, at Rutland, Rutland County, Vermont. They had four children; all grew to adulthood and married.
He was enumerated in the 1890 US Federal census, Veteran's Schedule in Jun 1890 at Wallingford, Rutland County, Vermont, as having served in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, Company B, also mentioning his service in the 2nd N. Y. VRC where he was wounded three times.
Frederick died on 23 Feb 1916 at East Wallingford, Vermont. He was 73 years, 8 months and 15 days old. After his death Clara received a widow's pension based on his service.
