Longtime Thousand Oaks resident, Howard J. Harper, 88, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 9 , 2013.
He was born January 17, 1925, in Los Angeles, Calif., spent his youth in Hollywood and Beverly Hills, attended Fairfax High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy at the young age of 17. He was a proud World War II veteran serving aboard the USS Earle, USS New Jersey and the USS Shelby. While serving in the military, he attended Wesleyan University in Connecticut. He truly loved sharing his sea stories with family and friends.

Howard had a 30-year career at Pacific Telephone in Los Angeles then enjoyed a second career as a real estate agent. He was a charter member of the Conejo Valley Toastmasters and a parishioner of St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church in Thousand Oaks.

Howard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois, and is survived by his sister, Joanne Casale of Tucson, Ariz.; his children, Steve Harper and wife Karen of Big Bear, and their children: Shane, Heather Merrick and Brandon; Tom Harper of Thousand Oaks; Anne Panattoni and her husband Greg of San Diego; Patty Hall and her husband Scott of Thousand Oaks, and their children: Corey and Andy; Bill Harper and his wife Tracey of Bakersfield, and their children: Coral, Mandy and Maverick; and Carol Magnuson and her husband Doug of Newbury Park, and their children: Dillon and Carly. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Merrick, and Blake and Kamryn Harper.
