PERKINS, Everett Hugh "Perk" 82, embarked on his final voyage April 6, 2015, from St. Petersburg. Born in 1932 to Reginald Hugh Perkins and Delores Gainey, Perk grew up in St. Petersburg and Bradenton. After serving in the US Navy from 1951 until 1953, he attended Illinois State Teachers College on the GI Bill and began his career as an educator at Chicago's Morgan Park Military Academy in 1956. Moving back to Florida in 1962, he taught at Meadowlawn Middle School until retirement in 1990. Perk then started a second career as inveterate globe-trotter, master of floral Ikebana, anonymous philanthropist, and devoted servant of his church. In addition to countless friends, survivors include his cousin Gloria Moore and long-time companion Will Coleman, both of Bradenton.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to King of Peace MCC, 3150 5th Ave. N, St. Petersburg where a Celebration of Life will take place May 3 at 1:30 pm. Interment in the Gulf of Mexico by Neptune Society.
