Enlisted, December 10, 1934, in Troop E, 101st Cavalry Regiment ( Squadron A ), New York City. Commissioned, 2nd Lieutenant, Cavalry, June 24, 1938, 1st Lieutenant July 21, 1941, Captain July 22, 1942. Finishing World War 2 as a Major, promoted April 3, 1943. Discharged from the service March 2, 1946.

Post World War 2, served as the executive officer for the 101st Cavalry Regiment in the 1950's.

He enlisted in Troop E, 101st Cavalry with his brother Geoffrey. His father Wolcott P. served in Squadron A from 1896 - 1902 and Squadron A, New York Guard, in 1918. His uncle George Phelps Robbins served in Squadron A 1891 - 1900, and uncle Robert Peabody Barry, Jr., 1895 - 1092 ( including Troop A, Spainish American War ).
