Alvin served as a Lieutenant, U.S.S. Suwannee (CVE-27), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Stafford Springs, Tolland County, Connecticut prior to the war.

Alvin was "Killed In Action" when a Japanese kamikaze hit the flight deck eventually causing the Suwannee to erupt into a massive fire on the deck during the war.

Alvin was one of 107 total crew members that lost their lives that day.

He was awarded the "Silver Star" and the Purple Heart.

He was buried at sea.

Alvin also has a "Cenotaph" in the Saint Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, Connecticut.
