Son of Benjamin and Polly (Thayer) Barker. He married 30 Aug 1832 Semira daughter of Ziba Albee of Chesterfield, NH. Appt mail agent from Boston to Burlington 1853. He served as Capt of the Westmoreland Light Infantry or "Old West Light" between 1847-1857. He was Civil war soldier first serving as Capt of Co A, 2nd NH Volunteers, and then Lt Colonial of 14th NH Regiemnt. Was in several major battles including Battle of Bull Run. He served as NH state senator 1871-1873 Him and Semira had 3 sons, Frederick Adams, Frank Tileston, Thomas Wilson,
