Eugene Gray Everhart, 89, of Becks Church Road, known as Gene, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015, after a difficult journey with vascular dementia and congestive heart failure. He joined the love of his life, Betty Caroline Everhart, who went to Heaven on February 4, 2013. At the time of her Homecoming they had been married 68 years.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Forest Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Frankie Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home Saturday prior to the service.

Mr. Everhart was born on May 17, 1925, to Charles Jefferson and Alice Gray Everhart of Davidson County. He was a member of Sheets Memorial Baptist Church and loved his Sunday school class. He and mom took care of the flowers at the church also. He was a wonderful dad, a great friend and truly a man of God. He loved his church family. He always greeted you with a smile. God blessed him with so much love in his heart for everyone and he truly loved children. He worked at United Furniture and Wellington Hall where he retired. After retirement from furniture he worked at Lexington Golf Course until he was 86 years young. Working at the golf course was his Heaven on Earth. He loved his job and everyone loved him. He never met a stranger, always had a smile and always eager to tell a joke or two. In his younger years he was an amazing golfer. He made several hole in ones and has the trophies to prove it. He left behind precious memories for everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his son, Johnny Everhart of Kernersville; daughters, Carolyn Robbins and husband Gary of Trinity and Patty Trantham and husband Tip of Linwood; three grandchildren, Angie Taylor and husband Stafford of Archdale, Bradley Everhart of Kernersville and Casey Trantham and wife Dana of Thomasville; three step-grandchildren, Rhonda Brown and Marty Robbins of Archdale and Randy Robbins of Asheboro; four great-grandchildren, Christian Taylor, Brittany Garcia and her husband Estephan; Autumn Taylor and Daniel Taylor; seven step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, Caroline Grace Garcia of Charlotte; brothers, Dr. Carlton Everhart a retired doctor of Mount Airy and Hoyle Everhart of California.

The family would like to give special thanks to neighbors, Danny and Martha Tate for all their help and kindness; to John Eanes for taking dad to the Central Davidson High School football games and for being a dear friend. Thanks to Hospice for all the kindness and compassion they had given our dad and family.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
